- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2018Color: BlackVerified PurchasePROS:
- Print quality is AMAZING. Printing on photo paper results in pictures that look like they came from a photo lab. I seriously can’t tell the difference between photos I print and those that I order from the store.
- Ink is crazy efficient. I’ve printed countless black-and-white pages; shipping labels; full-color, high-resolution printouts; and a couple photos over the past 2 or 3 months (near-daily use). The ink has barely moved.
- Setup was pretty easy, as was filling the tanks with ink. (Again, So. Much. Ink. I can’t get over how much was included and how long it’s lasting. With my Kodak, I was going through ink cartridges every month or two.)
CONS:
- The wireless connection is slow & takes about a minute to send from the computer to the printer. It’s much faster to hook it up to the USB, which is kind of a pain given that it’s got the wireless feature and I need my USB ports for other hardware I’m usually running simultaneously. Not a dealbreaker but worth mentioning.
- I use the rear feed more than I expected due to the fact that I print on thicker paper or photo paper quite frequently. Again, this is slow. You have to select rear feed, then it takes a bit to prepare (whatever that means), then you have to load and print one sheet at a time. I can live with it, but the one star was knocked off mainly due to the pain/slowness of using the rear feed.
(This may be personal preference, but I much prefer a rear-feed printer that doesn’t flip the paper as it’s pulled through. I would have gladly given up the closed paper tray for fully rear feed, but I couldn’t find any other models that would offer printing of this quality and with the refillable ink.)
- Speaking of the closed paper trays, I spent a good 30 minutes trying to figure that out. It is definitely cheap plastic like other reviews have mentioned. I couldn’t figure out how to get the tray to slide out to allow paper to be filled. I was scared I was going to break it, and the instructions were not helpful. FYI: There’s a place where you have to push down while sliding outward (to release the bottom tray from the top).
- This might be hard to explain, but it often prints on 2 pages at once using the paper tray. It’ll start printing on the first, then it also accidentally grabs a second sheet of paper about halfway through. Half of my document is printed on each page, resulting in 2 wasted pieces of paper. To avoid waste, this requires me to print one single sheet at a time - which again, is slow and frustrating, regardless of whether I’m using the front or the rear feed. I’ve figured out that slowing the printing speed down minimizes this, but it’s still frustrating that it’s an issue at all.
I realize that there are more cons than pros. HOWEVER, the print quality makes the smaller inconveniences worth it - at least so far. It is time consuming to print and, for my small business and how often I print, it does slow my work day down a bit. That being said, I’ve thoroughly impressed with the quality of the prints and the efficiency of the ink. Despite the cons, I would definitely recommend this printer as of now.
(I will also note that I DID pay full price for this printer and received no compensation at all. I was nervous with how many paid reviews I saw but decided to take a chance. Overall, I’m glad I did.)
**UPDATE, Jan. 2019: Still extremely happy with this printer. I’ve had it 9 months, use it every day for multiple high-quality prints, and have yet to refill the ink. (Over 2000 full-color sheets and over 1000 black-and-white the last time I checked.) The maintenance box finally had to be replaced about a week ago. It was SUPER easy. The replacement came with the printer in the first place, and the software on the computer walked me through it in a few simple steps; it took maybe 3 minutes. (I was nervous based on some other negative reviews about the maintenance box specifically, but it truly was too easy. Don’t let those sway you!)
Overall, I’ve had no major issues with the printer and have been extremely impressed with the prints and, especially, the ink efficiency. It has been well worth the price, in my case.
*UPDATE #2, August 2019: I refilled the ink tank somewhere around May (a year after getting the printer). An extra set of bottles came with the printer, so I still haven’t had to buy ink 1-1/2 years in. I used the original replacement maintenance box back in January, and it does need to be replaced again (8 months later - still daily use of full-color pages). All I’ve spent in the past 1-1/2 years (besides the up front cost) is $10 for a 2nd maintenance box. (I ordered it directly from Epson.)
*UPDATE #3, October 2020: Finally loaded the last of our original ink into the printer. I’m confident this will still last another year or so. I’m still extremely happy with this printer and would buy another in a heartbeat, should this one go out for any reason. Well worth the investment and I’ve upped it to 5 stars!

- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2018Color: BlackVerified PurchaseI just received my new Epson ET-7700 today. It is amazing! Here is how things went.
Opened box @ 1:45 PM.
1. Frustration free packaging, but box is huge and clearly marked, so no incognito if the package is sitting on your doorstep. All is packaged intelligently. No spilt ink. All those bits of tape that are used to hold a printer in place were easy to remove.
2. First things first-fill up the ink tank. I was nervous Nelly! Light grey carpet & a dog with more white fur, than red fur, who was very curious about my new printer. Thanks to a smart design, pouring the ink is easy. I didn't spill a drop.
3. Fairly bright & decent sized LCD screen made the set up even easier. Once you start the process, it guides you through the rest. Ink was initialized flawlessly.
4. Next came paper settings & loading paper--easy!
5. Next, I went to my Mac and simply typed into a Google search, "Epson ET-7700". First page that came up was for Epson's site. Clicked on it and didn't have to go to any other pages. The entire print & scan installation package listed. Only had to click on it. Works with Mac 10.6-10.12, so even if you have an older Mac, or if your Mac was just bought; you are in good shape.
6. Downloaded & opened installer--took all of about three minutes. Installation was quick. Driver installed & then asked me about WIFI set up. Gave simple instructions on what to do on my printer.
7. WIFI is listed right on the Home screen, so no searching through "Settings". Clicked on WIFI. Two options-wizard or manual. Choose wizard. It detected my home wifi asap. Promoted me for a password. 30 seconds later, I am connected.
8. Returned to computer. Asked about registering. DO THIS! once I finished, my new printer spit out a page giving me all Network settings, including my IP address.
9. Typed IP address into a web browser on my computer (don't type "www" or "http", just the address, which will be a series of numbers and periods, such as 123.22.333.1.123. Super easy interface. Clicking on the first option, "Epson Cloud services" walks you right through setting up your cloud services to play nice with your printer. Supports Dropbox, Evernote, One Note, Google Drive, Box. You can also list your personal email address.
10. Go to printer, click on "Scanning" on home screen. Now all of your accounts are listed. You can scan directly into any of those services, or have it go straight to your email address. I tested all of my mine and everything worked QUICKLY! Yeah, yeah, yeah!!!!
11. Made a quick copy of my Network Services page. Now I have copied, printed, & scanned on my new device. Printed & copied text & color is amazing. No smudging. Scans are crisp and clear too.
12. Went to App store on my iPhone. As soon as I opened the app, I was prompted to agree to terms. Then I was done. It searched for my printer, found it & was printing.
13. iPad went just as well. Printed from Ulysses app, pdf attachment in email, Evernote jpg, picture, etc.
4:00 PM, I am done.
When setting up your device, for cloud services; Epson gives you an email address for your printer. If you don't remember it, just scan to email to yourself and the "From" email will be the address to your printer. You can email your own printer, from anywhere in the world. It will print the email and the attachment, as well as send you confirmation emails that your email was "received" and the print was "completed".
You receive enough toner to fill up your machine + another full set of bottles to have as spares. All in all, the ink you receive is equivalent to about 30 of those tiny Canon cartridges, or about 20 of the larger HP /Lexmark/Epson standard cartridges. It will take you forever to go through all of that ink, but when you do; you can buy another set of bottles for about $100. That set will be the equivalent of 10-15 sets of inkjet toner cartridges. I have owned and used many, many types of printers (inkjet & laser); Xerox, HP, Epson, Lexmark, & Canon. The prints are some of the best quality prints I've seen. Definitely in the upper 5% for quality. So, you are getting top quality prints for what must be the lowest cost-per-page ratio in the industry.
This device has two paper trays; one for more standard sized pages, such as Letter, A4, etc. The other one for less standard sizes, such as envelopes. The standard paper tray doesn't hold much paper (maybe 50 sheets). That is my only complaint. If you print a lot of documents that are more than 50 pages; this could be a problem.
There is also a USB port, as well as a SD card port, for printing directly from either. You can print from cloud drives too, so if you set up your Dropbox, Evernote, Onedrive, Google Drive, Box, etc; you can open them and choose a file to print. You can do this on the App too, on your phone. Tested my Dropbox & Evernote--no problems finding files and printing them.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2019Color: BlackVerified PurchaseThe first one jammed so many times Epson sent me a new one under warranty ( excellent help from Epson ) The second took some learning time but the results was beyond expectations as to the quality. The 8 x10's of the vineyard are display quality. I don't do many 5 x7's but when I do it frequently jams otherwise I'd give it 5 stars. Update 8/2/20: Epson sent me a 3d printer. Still won't print 5 X 7 and 8 X 10 jams frequently and lots of lines on black background prints. After several nozzle cleanings they print ok but very time consuming and lots of ink and gloss photo print paper wasted,. maintenance box fills up and needs to be replaced more frequently .

5.0 out of 5 stars Great image quality and scanning function, a few catches though
Color: BlackVerified PurchaseThis is a really nice although slightly confused printer.
On one hand we finally have a photo capable printer with bulk sized tanks that drastically lower printing costs, but on the other hand even on sale the printer is literally double the price of a dedicated Epson photo printer. You really need to be into the bulk ink for the long haul to offset the "ink surcharge" the company is clearly adding to these Eco Tank printers.
Images print out really nice and rival my 6 and 8 colour Canon printers which is fantastic!
The tray system lets you keep two sizes of paper handy and ready to go without much hassle, and the scanner is fast and very high quality.
The copy function also works fast and effortlessly.
Now here's the confusing part, the software is a massive amount of bloat, it will be configured to use every transfer protocol under the sun and installs several print management applications when you might really only need 1 or 2. If you know what you are doing you can easily scale this back and only install ( or keep installed ) the few things you need for it to fully function.
There's also a huge identity crisis, it has so many excellent wireless options, but at the same time has every plug and connection you could imagine, for select usage cases they might make sense but generally we want less wires not more and it's more than capable as a strict wireless only printer ( heck it doesn't even come with a usb cable ). It's default installed able to connect to cloud printing /wifi /wifidirect /usb /ethernet /direct camera /android /apple /google /smartphone heck the SD as a shared windows folder lol... I narrowed it down to wireless only thanks >.<
The next problem is the screen, it's functionally useless since you can do everything wirelessly via PC and to be frank for the price, I doubt it's being bought by people with a limited PC/Photography skillset, there's also a CD printing button and tray and full feature set included for this function, which again is something maybe once in a blue moon a wedding photographer might print direct on a disk instead of using an adhesive printable label? It felt like they tried to make the printer a jack of all but master of none, and no doubt these extra features added to the final costs.
Finally the 2 things not many reviews speak about, the exit tray and the maintenance tank.
The paper exit tray is pretty small and on the tricky side to pull out, it also has a fully geared system, why it's not powered and comes out as needed is questionable and I think again too much emphasis was placed on the CD printing Tray having to fit up in there above it.
The maintenance tank... so when you first buy the printer and fill the tanks the first time the printer head will need to be filled with ink, no doubt during this procedure ink is being flushed through to make sure it's flowing properly and is filling the lines and head. You will have to then top up the tanks but it's ok you are still on the first set of bottles (comes with 2x of everything). Then you realize that there's a maintenance tank which holds the excess ink that spits out during maintenance and the initial setup, now after this first routine it was already showing the tank was halfway full. The printer comes with 1 extra, but I have no idea how long or often this will need to be replaced.
Do not buy the maintenance tanks on Amazon, they are being upsold! Get them directly from Epson Canada/USA they are only $13 Canadian, and they have very fair and fast shipping charges.
So in the end, the printer is functionally excellent aside from exit tray usage. Filling ink is easy and clean not to mention cheap vs. cartridge tanks but the original cost of ownership might kill any savings you make if you aren't a constant printer. There is the unknown usage of the maintenance tank lifetime, will it need to be replaced every time you add ink? It could massively end up inflating costs down the line, especially since the only reliable place to buy them is from Epson directly.
Coming from larger photo printers myself, I used to fill them with bulk inks and it was very cost effective but also time consuming and an overall pain, getting comparable value without the hassle for me made this printer a great choice and it does print really well and the scanner is also excellent. I just think the price "not on sale" is on the absurd side and no doubt the inclusion of so many protocols and connections as well as odd things like so much emphasis on the CD printer aspect really hit the price point.
It's a printer geared/priced for high end amateur or professional users but lugging along all the extra bulk and connections that someone just looking for a $50 printer to plug their phone into would want lol.
Maybe the next iteration will be a simple focused function printer xD but for now it's just really expensive and has enough options and random connections to pretty much satisfy anyone right down to corporate security and encryption.

4.0 out of 5 stars Saved so much from printing photos alone.
Color: BlackVerified PurchaseI've had this printer for a few years now. I love the ink refill system as it's less likely to make a mess while filling it up. Not that it doesn't have it's occasion to irritate me. You very rarely will have to clean ink of the rollers. I believe this is from a family member printing in duplex mode with a page and large pictures being involved. (See Christmas news letters to family). When I purchased this we paid around $700 cad. In my opinion it paid for itself with the ink with half a year especially if someone likes to print photos.
Scanner is also good.
Linux support is passable I would like better compatibility but I'm satisfied with it.
TL;DR Would buy again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not made to print sheets of labels!
Color: BlackVerified PurchaseWorks well with good quality printouts on paper. I have printed a few photos & I’m happy enough with the quality. The biggest disappointment is that this printer will NOT print labels (eg. Avery labels). If you try to print a sheet of labels, some will be pulled off the paper backing during the process & it’s impossible to recover the labels from inside the machine. Given the price of this printer, there really should be notice of this in the description. All printers I have used in the past are able to print sheets of labels, and is an important need in my home office. Very disappointed. The printer will print on individual envelopes (need to load one envelope at a time), however this is no solution.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must buy product
Color: BlackVerified PurchaseVery good printer easy to fill up ink tank and has auto stop filling prints clear paper and photo and has auto Duplex setting excellent on that. Prints really fast compare to other printers. Dislike stuff sometime will have to quickly replace from tray to rear feeder to get it to print and sometime from cassette 1 will fly out a unprited paper if you print single copie. And to use the scanner to make copies of papers you have to add the paper on the right side of the scanner rather then left side. Other then that definitely a 5 star rating from me

1.0 out of 5 stars What they don't tell you before buying...
Color: BlackVerified PurchaseWell talk about disappoiinted !!! I was so looking forward to my new Epson ET7700 photo printer!! (Have used Canon for years). Got it out of the box, followed the directions from START HERE, and after the ink was all installed, was trying to understand the instructions for print head alignment tests, etc., and looking for help in the User's Guide, accidentally found on page 5, in small print, the fact that my new $650 photo printer cannot be used to print the kind of photos I always print - borderless - because the machine's parts will fail. And in the warranty section, it specifically states that if you do borderless printing beyond the expected limited life of those parts (without giving any hint as to how long that limited life might be), then your printer is not covered by warranty!!!!
I'm so mad I could spit. Why was that little tid-bit of information not included in the description of the printer on Amazon?
It's like selling you a car and then telling you the motor will fall out pretty soon, and too bad for you.
Guess my little venture with Epson is short-lived.
